During the Olympic times of the Int. 5.5m Class, several boats have been built for Danish account. Many local designers - among them Poul Molich, E. Wedell-Wedellsborg & F. Ph. Rasmussen - had been involved and boatyards like Walsted and Cadovius. Many of the Danish boats from the 50's found their way to Canada. One Danish sailor is particularely known for his Olympic participation (1960, 1964 & 1968): William Eldred Berntsen, his boats all named "WEB", thus placing his initials into the races.

The boats shown are 5.5 DEN 12 Web IV (below) and 5.5 GER 26 Willi Lehmann (right).

After the Olympic times 5.5 sailing lost attention in Danmark, only a few boats remained, Web IV now being on display in Danmarks Museum før Lystsejlads, Svendborg. But, there has been some development, starting with the arrival of former 5.5 BAH 17 Absolutely to Copenhagen becoming DEN 17, later adding DEN 19, which won the Scandinavan Gold Cup in 2016 and got Silver in the 2016 World Championship. Both have been sold abroad, in the meantime.

The boats:

Classic 5.5 GER 26, DEN 12, SWE 25

Evolution 5.5 DEN 13
